Sunday School and KidsChurch

Scots Mackay And Sarina Sunday Schools

Sunday School is offered at the Mackay Morning and Sarina Services.  All children are welcome. It is not necessary that parents worship in our Sunday Services, though we invite you and welcome you to do so.

What We Do At Sunday School

Our goal is, foremost, to help the younger people in our church family to understand the good news of the Gospel of Jesus Christ…. and also to have fun learning about God and His word, the Bible.

A Sunday School lesson will often involve singing, prayer, playing interactive games, and learning by lessons and activities based on the Bible. The children sometimes make craft with a Bible message to take home. At times during the year the children present a skit, sing or are involved in activities for a Church Service.

Age Groups for Sunday School

Our Sunday School Classes cater for three year olds through to primary school age children.

Sunday School Times

Sunday Schools run during the school term, breaking for the holidays and long weekends. The Sarina Sunday School starts at 9:30 am and is completed well before the Church Worship Service. Please bring your child to the teacher at the church. You can collect your child from the teacher at the Church at the end of Sunday School. The children have morning tea before the start of the Church Worship Service. Your family is very welcome to attend our Sunday Worship Service which commences at 10:30 am.

The Mackay Sunday School runs from 8:50 am to 9:30 am.  If you do not attend our Sunday Worship Service please bring your child to the Children’s Ministry Centre behind the Worship Centre for an 8:50 am start. Your child can be collected at 9:30 am.  Your family is very welcome to attend our Sunday Worship Service which commences at 8:30 am.

Safety Information

We take your child’s safety seriously, and we will ask you to complete a Safety Information Form for your child.

Also please be assured, all our teachers in our youth and children’s ministries have current accredited Queensland Government Blue Cards.

Helping Parents

We are committed to helping parents evangelise and disciple their children. Our kids are a great blessing, yet we all know that raising them can be difficult and frustrating! Thankfully, the Bible is full of teaching and encouragement for dads and mums, and we work hard at equipping them for this good work.

We also have a help called “The Parenting Children Course” which we host to assist us all in becoming better parents.  For more information, talk to Peter about when we’ll be running it next.

Learning to enjoy Church

It’s good for our children to spend time with us in church. They learn the importance of gathering with God’s people and see the example of adults singing, learning from the Bible and praying together. The children leave part-way during the service to go to the [email protected] program.

On Sunday mornings the kids are taught the Bible in an enjoyable, age-appropriate way. All of our leaders are Godly, enthusiastic servants of the children, and have formal qualifications in teaching or associated fields.  Children who are ages 3-11 are welcome to go out to our KidsChurch program (though for safety reasons,we ask you to sign your children in so we know which children we have).

There’s a creche for the youngest kids and nursing mothers. We welcome babies and toddlers in church. We have a few of our own, so be assured you’ll be accepted when they squawk or squeak!

Youth group

In addition to Sunday morning, youth group gives the older youth time to hang out and grow in their knowledge of God and his word.  This is on Sunday afternoons from 3:30 pm – 5:30 pm, and as we have youth located all around the Mackay district, the venue alternates between North Mackay and Sarina.  But talk to Peter and he can help you to organise transport for your kids.  Also see the Youth Group page for more information.
